Rent payments - what you need to know
Whether you’re a new or returning student, you may have some questions about paying rent.
How does it all work? Don't sweat it: we’ve put together some frequently asked questions to help you stay on top of your payments.
When is my first rent payment due?
If you're a new student who has booked a tenancy in one of our England, Wales or Northern Ireland properties, your first rent payment is due no later than 1st August if you have booked before this date. If you have booked after this date, it is due from the date of booking (please note the amount due will take 24 hours to appear on your Student Roost account). This does not apply to semester stays starting in January.
If you've rebooked to live with us for another year in one of our England, Wales or Northern Ireland properties, your first rent payment will be due in August or September, depending on when you booked. You will be able to check your rent payment due date by logging into your account.
If you've booked or rebooked to live with us in one of our Scotland properties, your first rent payment will be due on the first date of your tenancy contract.
When will rent payments be due after I’ve paid the first instalment?
We recognise that not one size fits all, so we offer flexible payment schedules so you can find the plan that suits you. Choose from annual, termly and monthly instalments across the year.
Please note: if you pay in monthly instalments, your total amount will be 2% more than if you choose to pay in 1 or 4 instalments.
How can I pay my rent?
You can pay your rent easily online through your Student Roost account. Alternatively, as a resident in the property you can make card payments in person at reception.

I booked a room at Student Roost through my university – who do I pay?
If you booked a room with us via your university, your payment dates and terms will be dependent on your university. We recommend that you contact your university directly, or log into your university student portal, for more advice and information. You can also contact the team at the property you have a booking at; they are available 24/7 via email, telephone and in-person at reception.
Can I keep track of my rent payments?
Within your account, you can keep track of your payments and when rent is due so you can stay on top of your rent outgoings.
We will also send regular payment reminders, just in case it’s slipped your mind.
What do I do if I’m struggling to pay my rent?
If you are having financial worries, please don't stay silent. Our property team members are available 24/7 to help you and can direct you to further support from your university, our Resident Wellbeing team or local charities and organisations. A tenancy may be at risk of being cancelled by Student Roost, as per our terms and conditions, if payments are missed; however, we are always here to support you.
